plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future Jeremiah 29
The Madison Jobs and Housing Partnership is nearing the end of its second year of service. During this time we have worked with over 75 people in the PhoeniX Life Skills training class and one on one coaching. There are over 15 local agencies that refer clients to the training as well as the Department of Corrections Ferris work release program and half way houses.
“The men came back very excited about the program. Their whole attitude has really changed and their self-confidence as well”, reported James Underkofler of Attic Community Corrections.
Many students upon graduating from the class with a personal mission statement, purpose statements and a job search strategy have been successful in obtaining employment on their own. MJHP has been successful in connecting graduates of the program with employers as well. Most recently a growing number of people began working for Kindy Construction doing remodeling work.
“I’m proud of myself today! I didn’t have self-esteem or motivation to try something new. I’ve been out of the workforce raising my kids, and I was afraid to step out but not now. Thank you!”
There is a tremendous need for quality training and guidance in the employment search process and we are one of the very few that provide it. We have continually seen the poor direction and assistance given those who need this help the most. Caseworkers and service agencies often carry this responsibility. But they are already stretched for time and often lack the knowledge. The whole process of job search, resume preparation, and developing interviewing skills must be repeated and reinforced many times in a person’s journey toward full employment. The people we work with are simply not receiving the help they need.
As the success of these programs continues to grow we are finding our resources stretched. The grant from the Madison Community Foundation is meeting less than half of our budget. Your financial support is greatly appreciated and will allow us to meet this growing need. Your tax-deductible donations can be directed through The Jericho Project. Many Thanks.
